In 2018, I was commissioned by Apples and Snakes as an artist in residence at six Bexley Libraries. I collaborated with Bexley Library Services, Bexley Council’s Health Department and clinical psychologist Dr. Isis Davidson-Olsson, to create and deliver an arts and health project tackling obesity in the borough of Bexley. We ran 18 sessions during the summer for young children and their families

Teddy Bears’ Picnic engaged pre-school children and their carers around the topics of healthy eating and being active. We danced, we planted cress, we drank water when we were thirsty and had a little nap when we were sleepy. We washed our hands and we shared colourful, delicious fruit and vegetables as well as stories about the food that tastes like home.

The scheme was part of the Engaging Libraries initiative and was funded by Carnegie UK Trust.

Due to the positive response for this project, we are hoping to further develop it in the future.
